Çelebi’s New Import Cargo & Warehouse Building starts to provide services at Atatürk Airport

Çelebi, a global brand in Turkish civil aviation, put a new cargo & warehouse building into service at Atatürk Airport. It covers nearly 11,000 m2 and the facility has an annual capacity of 102,000 tons. The cargo building completed in February, entered into service following the opening ceremony held on 15.4.2015.

Çelebi management, authorities in the civil aviation sector, representatives of airline companies and leading figures in the sector attended the opening ceremony hosted by Onno Boots, Çelebi Aviation Holding CEO and Atilla Korkmazoğlu, president of Ground Handling & Cargo, Çelebi Aviation Holding (EMEA).

Speaking at the ceremony, Onno Boots drew attention to Çelebi’s strong national and international growth strategy. He stressed that the company provides significant amounts of cargo & warehouse services in Delhi, Budapest and Frankfurt as well as Turkey. Boots added: “Çelebi is developing both national and international strategies for air cargo & warehousing services as well. This includes increasing our potential and the number of customers in our existing investments and new markets and opportunities.”

Noting that Çelebi plans to increase its market share by offering more proactive services through improved storage capacity, technology and service quality, Boots said: “In future, Çelebi , as a global player,  will keep on targeting new airlines from Europe, Middle East and the Pacific by using its strong position and experience in the sector to its full advantage.”

Atilla Korkmazoğlu, president of Ground Handling & Cargo, Çelebi Aviation Holding (EMEA), stressed the exemplary cargo building as a facility with  technology features and high capacity, adding: “With its capacity of over 100,000 tons and state-of-the-art technology, our new cargo building was constructed as an international facility worthy of Çelebi. It is one of the most contemporary facilities in the world with its operational equipment and technology.”

Atilla Korkmazoğlu noted that an estimated 150 airlines are to be serviced and the expected cargo volume is 6 million tons for the third airport. “As one of the pioneering institutions in the sector, Çelebi Cargo has started efforts to take place in the third airport project with its innovative approach, investments and existing service branches. Çelebi is aiming to triple the number of customers in five years and the transaction volume by 25% and to play a strong role in the third airport project,” said Korkmazoğlu.

Çelebi in  5 countries, two continents

Providing cargo & warehouse services in 35 airports in 5 countries on two continents, Çelebi Aviation Holding is one of the important global players on the international market. Çelebi provides ground-handling services in Budapest airport, Hungary; Vienna, Austria; Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, India as well as at 29 airports (seasonal 31) in Turkey.  Along with these, Çelebi Group also provides air cargo & warehousing services in Istanbul, Turkey; Budapest, Hungary; Frankfurt, Germany; and Delhi, India. An 11,000 m2 covered area and 102,000 tons capacity

Çelebi’s new air cargo & warehouse building in Atatürk Airport has a covered area of nearly 11,000 square-metres. It has an “Import Temporary Storage” area of 5,550 square-metres and 5,305 square-metres of Export Storage and Palletisation.  The facility has a total annual capacity of 102,000 tons.

Security is at its highest level

Security is at the highest level in Çelebi’s new cargo facility. Fingerprint identification systems are used at all entrances, exits and in corridors between the facility’s units. Expert security personnel work 24/7 in shifts. The entire building is monitored uninterruptedly with 191 high-resolution cameras, including speed dome cameras, which are positioned all over the structure. The camera system records uninterruptedly and can archive its footage for one year.

Fully equipped against fire

All precautions are taken against fire in the facility. The fire information system gives the facility direct and uninterrupted access to the fire department. It also has an emergency announcement voice system, fire detection system (smoke, heat and flame sensors), fire extinguisher boards, and fire extinguishers.

Operational equipment comes to the fore

Operational equipment in Çelebi’s new air cargo building comes to the fore with capacity and high technology. The new cargo building has 17 hand terminals, 4-reach truck (1.7 tons/9 metres and 2 tons/5 metres), 6 forklifts (1.6 tons, 3 tons), 6 stackers, 3 X-rays (one single-view, two dual view), 8 truck docks, 2 cargo lifts (8 tons), and 6 scales (1.5 tons and 6 tons).
