Attracting increasing attention in recent years with its contract awards and successful results, Çelebi Ground Handling, the pioneer of Turkish civil aviation and its leading representative in the international arena, has made an offer for the Spanish firm of Newco. This follows the company's bid to acquire Acciona Airport Services in the same country.
The oldest and leading firm in the Turkish civil aviation and ground handling services industry, Çelebi Ground Handling (ÇGH) has been gaining recognition with its stream of successes in the international market. Advancing quickly but sure-footedly towards becoming a global player, ÇGH turned its sights on Spain after establishing itself in Hungary and Belgium. In the wake of the Acciona bid, Çelebi has submitted a non-binding offer to purchase all the shares in Spain's Newco Airport Services firm as well. If the offer is accepted, Çelebi will begin negotiations to buy the Newco shares. Newco Airport Services supplies ground-handling services in 22 of Spain's major airports including Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Palma de Majorca, and Santiago. Newco has 2,450 employees and services 103 thousand flights a year.
A project that Çelebi recently launched to acquire all the shares in Acciona Airport Services (AAS), another leading ground handling services company in Spain, is also moving forward at the present time. AAS provides ground handling services in Germany through four firms at the Schönefeld, Tempelhof, and Tegel airports in Berlin and also at the Frankfurt and Hamburg airports. Acciona has two companies in Spain through which it provides ground handling services at the Ibiza, Minorca, Palma de Majorca, Gran Canaria, Tenerife Norte, Tenerife Sud, and Madrid airports.
Çelebi Ground Handling launched its international investments in late 2006 with the inauguration of ground handling services at Budapest Ferihegy International Airport in Hungary. ÇGH's second venture into the European market took place a short time later when the company was awarded a license to provide ground handling services at Brussels South Charleroi Airport in Belgium.
In the fast-growing civil aviation market in Asia, Çelebi has also authored another stream of significant successes in India. After being awarded contracts at India's two most important airports, Çelebi Ground Handling quickly installed the infrastructure that it needed. The company is now providing ground handling services at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai and cargo handling services at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Not long afterward ÇGH also submitted the winning bid on a license to provide ground handling services at the Delhi airport as well. With this latest success, Çelebi has now positioned itself so as to be able to serve a substantial volume of the domestic and international air traffic in India.
