Çelebi Ground Handling (ÇGH) received the “Ramp Safety Award” during the 12th Ground Handling International Conference, organized by Ground Handling International, a sectoral magazine published in over 200 countries. The conference was held in Vienna from November 29 to December 2, where ÇGH was granted the Ramp Safety Award in the Middle East&Africa category. ÇGH Izmir station received the Ramp Safety Award for its personnel's quick and accurate decision-making, which provided the safety of both Çelebi and the airline's personnel during a pushback operation. During the operation, a Çelebi operator servicing an aircraft was ordered to halt and make way for an arriving aircraft. However, the driver considered that the incoming aircraft was going to strike his own, so he towed his aircraft back a few meters. It was later found that had he not executed the maneuver, a collision would have ensued. After conducting an inquiry, GHI officials named the push-back operation as a model exercise for apron security in terms of preventing a possible catastrophe. ÇGH had received the same award in 2006 at the Ground Handling International Conference held in Monte Carlo.
